Parachute Pants

I think I’ve been out of touch with fashion for a good few years. Honestly, I didn’t even realize that the 80’s had come back into high street fashion until recently (hence the blog on high street ‘Fame’ wear). So today I took the time to go into shops like Topshop and Primark to see if I could uncover any more fashion recalls.

Considering I was born in the last 6 months of the 1980’s I’m pretty glad that they’re bringing back some old school wears and tears. Such as ‘one-pieces’ and also I’m glad to see the costumes from Desperately Seeking Susan on the racks again. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for mullets to come back in again some time soon. Maybe I should kick start it off. Although, I’d need to get my mitts an old school Chevy first or I’m not sure I’d be able to pull it off.

So today, despite getting completely lost on the three unnecessary floors of the Potteries shopping mall, I did actually stumble across something that made me smile. In fact I actually spent four whole sterling pounds buying a pair because I was just so happy with them. Parachute Pants!

Yeah, I am totally into Parachute Pants, or as Vogue would call them, Harem Pants. Or as horse riders would call them, Jodhpurs. The standard trends for anyone who reads Horse and Hound regularly.

Side note: You wouldn’t believe the ratio between the amount of images of ‘horse riders’ to ‘horse fall’. There are just so many more photos of horse riders eating dirt, than captures of them riding their horses gracefully!

Now, I know absolutely everyone knows who Mc Hammer is, and if they don’t it’s probably because they don’t have eyes and ears or something. He rocked the Parachute Pants back in the 80’s and now, thanks to high street fashion running out of new ideas, everyone can kick it in their own pair too. Would you believe that I’ve even found a video dedicated to this new fashion recall:

Alternatively, if you do have ears and eyes and haven’t ever witnessed the wonderfully talented MC Hammer before, you would’ve definitely encountered Disney’s Aladdin, who you can also find in a pair of Harem Pants. So, with no relevance at all, I’ll leave you with these words from the Genie:

Rick ‘em, rack ‘em, rock ‘em, rake. Stick that sword into that snake!
