Ok, so before you freak out and think RISE has gone satanic on you in our latest collab, a bit of introduction is necessary.
RISE is collaborating with a fellow kiwi artist - Duane Moyle - to produce some super-limited edition tees. Duane is a fine arts graduate, based in London, and has some rather intriguing ideas on the perception of beauty in our image-saturated age. Duane’s latest collection of pieces juxtaposes a classical Renaissance/Pastoral aesthetic against a foreground of pop cultural 21st Century desire.
The logo on the front of the tee pictured below is actually his signature which he painstakingly paints on his pieces. The whole logo, imbued with seeming mystic symbolism, is nothing more than elaborate frame for his mirrored signature in the centre. The point of the signature logo is to make a statement on the way that we frame beauty in this age and attempt to pull meaning out of design because it is lavishly framed. The actual meaning of the logo is nothing more than an artists mark. It signifies what you will it to signify. In truth, as the reverse of the tee suggests, beauty (or perception) is indeed in the eye of the beholder, and it’s your perception that vilifies or glorifies this design.
Personally, I find Duane’s discipline singularly inspiring and well worth a look. If you want something customised for yourself then please feel free to contact him via his website - www.moylepainting.com - he would love to hear from you. If you want to see his work in the flesh, he will be holding an exhibition in a few weeks time, so go along and say RISE sent you.
These tees will be available online in about a month, to coincide with his gallery showing.
Peace from RISE.

Well, in the lives of the supercreative, actually cleaning and tidying your office is something of a monumental effort. As such, accomplishing said task is certainly blog-worthy. As I’ve mentioned previously, the RISE office is run alongside DAYTHREE - a design studio based in Birmingham’s Jewellry Quarter. Posted below are a few pics of the office and every tshirt aficionado’s ultimate must-have - our 4 station, 6 head screenprint press - where we hand-print much of our designs ourselves.
Respect.
Ranui.

Ive had either pneumonia or bronchitis this week and and its been pretty hellish. Im a bit ADHD, so staying inside for days on end will surely drive me mad after a few days. I decided to revive all my old kicks that were knocking about in the bottom of the cupboard. So far, my Black Velcro Lacostes, my Black Evisus, my plaid Van slipons, and my White Velcro Lacostes - pictured - have all received the treatment. For these ones, I pulled out my engraver and etched the design into the leather, and then coloured them with a Sharpie. Old skool tattooing… know they’re not particularly pretty, but, hey its better than sitting around doing nothing….
Ill be back on top of things soon (I hope)!
Hot on the heels of BBB we got some pics for you fun lovin’ fashionistas out there. Joystick Junkies kindly allowed us a guest pass on their stand, and we rinsed the opportunity. A few cervezas, magazines and seminars later, and we are fully kitted out with enough info to arm a small fashion army. We will post the pics here, but be assured of some more concise info and ideas in the months to follow. In a word BBB was HOT - both literally and figuratively, and now that the fun in the sun is over, Im about ready for a long overdue siesta…..bueno, hasta luego…….zzzz

Just had a nice meeting with the boys from WASTE - wasteyourself.com - and checked out some of their retro skate inspired graphics. These guys produce quality hand screenprinted art pieces from their studio in quantities of 50s.
This is one of their pieces they were nice enough to leave with us.
Hey that would look good on a tshirt…
Watch this space - there might be a collab in there somewhere…!

I don’t want to give away too much, but Ive been working 12 hour days for the last 2 weeks solid to bring you some spectacular RISE offerings for Spring 09.
No promises yet, but here is a couple of shots of some rather nice jackets dropping into the collection next year.
Peace,

Well, enough said really.
This is what I call commitment. Mad props to Dan for the Micah 7/8 tatt!
Now I gotta catch up and get inked as well.
(Just as a disclaimer, we don’t actually encourage you to get inked with our theme verse, but we gotta give respect where it’s due!)
Keep Love Alive.
